Beauty from Ashes

A couple days ago, I was scrolling through Instagram, and came across a really sweet, dear friend’s feed. She had a plant that is sitting on top of a stack of books and with a post that said “Stop regarding man in whose nostril is breath, for what account is he?” –Isaiah 2:22 // realizing the depth of His jealousy for me & His genuine desire to be with me. If you want to know, too, read through the book of Isaiah.”

Let’s back up a couple months. I have had a lot of changes come during this summer. I am a creature of habit and like to feel confident as to what will be coming next. I like schedules and a routine and orderliness; and let’s just say that this summer has been anything but that! I recently quit my job of almost two years, went out on a total leap of faith and did what I felt lead to do as an intern. With that came a pay cut, less hours, more time on my hands, and lots of chaos in my world! I quickly became very fearful, unsure what came next. I started feeling insecure about what I was doing, and with that came lots of doubts!

I found myself sitting in my car crying out to God asking Him “what the heck am I doing?!” I quickly found myself doubting what I thought was to be the ‘right’ thing.

As I was trying to figure this all out, and with more and more doubts creeping in, I began to throw myself my out private pity party! Poor ME! I began to wear the sin that walked in; I wore the cone of shame, the name tag victim, and the lanyard of guilt. Not wanting to put forth the effort to reach out, I had no one to turn to and I felt utterly alone!

So what was supposed to be this amazing summer, walking with God, working with youth quickly went down the drain and I was ready to give up!!

So jump back to Sarah’s post: “Stop regarding man in whose nostril is breath, for what account is he?” –Isaiah 2:22 // realizing the depth of His jealousy for me & His genuine desire to be with me. If you want to know, too, read through the book of Isaiah.”

If I’m going to be real honest, I heard the term in a song once or twice and knew what it meant; but I thought this was a joke! Jesus, jealous for me? Seriously?? No way, I am full of too much sin and ugliness and shame; there is no way He can be jealous!

A week passed and I could not shake her post. I went back to her post daily, sometimes twice. I knew God was trying to speak to me; sadly I was too far into my pity party to hear him.

One night I found myself lying in bed wide awake, knowing I have a 5:30 AM wakeup call quickly approaching. After hours of tossing and turning, praying I would fall asleep, Jesus placed it on my heart to go read Isaiah. I don’t know if you know this or not, but the book of Isaiah has 66 chapters! That’s a whole lot!!!!

Let me tell ya, as miserably tired as I was the next day; I would not ever trade that night for anything in the world. Jesus met me there!

You see, Isaiah contains some of the most incredible prophecies, in my opinion. It contains foreknowledge, in incredible details about the Messiah, and the future reign of Jesus Christ. The purpose of the book of Isaiah was to call God’s nation, the nation of Judah, back to faithfulness and to declare the coming “Immanuel”. God calls and commissions His prophet to declare to Judah and Israel condemnation, conviction, and ultimately great hope.

Isaiah points out the sins of both North and South Kingdoms. He declares punishment to these kingdoms and all the surrounding nations, “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from my sight Cease to do evil” (1:16). He proclaims great hope of the coming Savior, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel” (7:14),

Isaiah continues to proclaim, “There is no God beside Me”.  There is also another foretelling of the Messiah, who will come and bring new life through His death, “He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth” (53:7).

Towards the end of the book, Isaiah writes of the new Heavens and Earth, that this is that great reward for all those who trust and obey God. He proclaims the hope for the afflicted and judgment for the evil. “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be remembered or come to mind” (65:17).

Needless to say, I was a leaky faucet that night! Isaiah was really frustrated that his people were ‘okay’ with watching the wickedness of the world take over.  They knew his people knew better than to let that happen. After realizing that, I saw a couple things, in order, take place. I saw how disappointed He is that I am sitting in my sin; that I am not repenting of my sin. If I’m not repenting, I’m not allowing Jesus in to come clean it up.

I saw how badly he wants me to come to him (1:18). The sin and shame that I have held onto so deeply, He wanted me to stop carrying it and place it at his feet. I saw the depths of his love for me. I saw how jealous He was. He hates that I give all my attention to the things I worry about. He hates to see me hold onto what hurts me. He hates to see me sit in my pity. He hates that I struggle with all of these things.

Jesus WANTS me to give it all to Him. He doesn’t want me to struggle, worry, or hurt. He wants me to fulfill the life He has planned for me; and I cannot do that by holding onto the past. Isaiah 1: 18 says to “forget the former things; do not dwell of the past”

Once I came to the depths of His love for me, I quickly saw the magnitude of mercy and grace He has had over my life. He has protected me and not allowed the complete wickedness of the world consume me.

After reading and studying the book of Isaiah, all the doubts that formed, the lack of faith, the pity parties, and the self doubt, God spoke to me. We weren’t made to wear the titles that the world has placed on us: victim, ugly, liar, fearful, shameful, prideful, the list goes on; that is no longer who we are. God has far greater plans for my life as well as yours.

We are sons and daughters of the most high!

To chose Joy

Have you ever woken up and literally everything just feels wrong?

This morning I woke up with a crap ton of anxiety about everything that could possibly go wrong and did go wrong. Over breakfast, I felt nauseous as I worried. The enemy took my heart captive and held it tight, whispering lies into my ear about all the ways my future could be a disaster, all the decisions I could have made differently, and more. With all of the changes I have been making in my world, I sat and wondered if really knew what I was doing with my life. The question I always come back to slowly crept in and began to eat me alive.

A couple of months ago, I was sitting in my Sunday school class listening to the pastors wife teach over John 11, Jesus raising Lazarus. It’s a passage I’ve read and learned about multiple times, but for some reason, God wanted to use her teaching and His word, to stir something within me.

John 11:20-26
So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die? Do you believe this?”

As she read this text, I sat there and began silently weeping. I found myself in Martha’s shoes “Lord, if you had been there…”

This fear and overwhelming anxiety began to worsen as I stood in the shower with nothing but the tile wall to distract me. I stood there in solitude as every worry and every fear I could possibly have taunted me to bow down to it. I tried to pray but my head was so clouded & full of chaos that I gave up. I was so stuck in my head that I thought I'd go insane.

I shut off the water, grabbed my towel, had a good cry, put my big girl pants on, and started on my work for the day. But after a few hours of trying to focus on what was in front of me, and trying to get out of my head, I had to stop. I had to get out of my world and into the Word. I had to meet with Jesus, because no amount of coffee or distraction was going to fix this one.

You see, I find myself asking that question a lot here lately. When I get to that point, I get stuck in my head. I go back and forth between, “I need to feel this. I need to let all of these emotions and feelings ooze out and let them have a chance to be felt.” Then I immediately turn and become afraid let the rawness of these feelings come to surface; in fear of them becoming reality again.

Trying to get myself together, I hear God begin to whisper, “The pain happened here, my glory is over there.”

I really started focusing on who Jesus is and what he has done for me. I began searching for His grace and the unconditional love He had for me. For the first time, I began to see the deep beauty in Jesus.

I sat there reading 1 Corinthians 10, I began to realize that the words WORLD and WORRY start off the same way, with the same root word or something. It's like they're destined to go together.

THIS WORLD MAKES ME FEAR. And until I intentionally yank myself out of it and say NO to every single thing that begs me to stay in it, I'm going to worry.

By nature we are worshipers. We all worship something: appearance, social media, relationships, food, you name it. And worship of worldly things turns into worry and fear and anxiety because deep down we know there is no security there. But worship of the Father turns worry into FREEDOM because only there is where we find true security.

As I sit here tonight with my emotions all over the place, I come to a sense of peace. I see that the God who saved me at 10 years old, is molding and creating something new within me. The fear that I once let creep in and torment me (which still does at times), I find peace in knowing His truths.

So if you feel consumed by worry or anxiety, I don't know what's got you. But take a peek at what's sitting on the throne of your heart. You'll probably find something in the world.
Dethrone the world replace it with His Word. Joy is rooted in the WORD OVER THE WORLD. The devil can read your story, but he can’t write your story.

The Ugly and The Broken

“You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle..” –Psalms 56:8

“I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” Isaiah 43:25

As I am continuing to grow and embracing all of my ugliness, and my faith shifts and becomes stronger, I tend to become frightened by the image Satan has formed in my mind. I am scared of Him not loving the ugly parts of my life. I’m afraid that if I were standing right in front of God Himself, He might turn me away. In result, I try to “hide” who I really am. In result, I don’t run to Him in the midst of a storm. I hold onto the hurts that have been thrown at me. As all the lies build up in my mind, my image of who God is shifts. You see, Satan has a way of creeping in and spitting lies to make me think one way, when in reality, Jesus loves me. He wants me to be happy. He wants me to let go of the hurt, and give it all to Him. He doesn’t want to condemn and point His finger at me all the time when I screw up. He wants me to live a free and happy life that glorifies Him and all that He has done.

Today in the garden, I found myself walking around the meadow looking to see where He has placed Himself. Normally He’s sitting at the end of the pier waiting for me to come dip my toes in the water right next to Him. Some days He embraces me with arms wide open, waiting to just love on me.
When I came in, He was leaning up against the tree eager to see me. He had been waiting so long to see me.

We went over to His BIG chair. He only takes me over there when serious business needs to take place.

He sits down and sits me in right next to Him and says: “Sweetheart, what are you doing… why are you avoiding me? You know your past, I know your ugliness.. but baby girl, I love you so much.”

Giving him the silent treatment, I sit there as the salty tears fall down my cheek.  I began to get angry and I start to just hit Him. HARD. Swing after swing. All the anger and hurt and frustration I ever bottled up was being released.

And He just takes it…

Tears rolling down faster, I yell at him and ask “If you love me so much, then why didn’t you save me from everything I went through?”
“Why don’t you just stop me when I get to my lowest of lows?”
“Why can’t you make these memories just go away?”

Breathing gets faster, tears uncontrollable, I just fall even more into his arms and He just holds me.
Minutes pass by without a word being said.

Finally, He picks me back up, cups my sweaty cheeks into the palms of his hands, looks me right in the eyes and says these words to me:

“Beloved, I am so sorry you have been SO deeply hurt. I never had this part mapped out in my plans for you! I cannot be where evil is.. I wasn’t a part of that! I have all of your tears in my bottle, every moan and groan you cried out, baby girl, I heard you and I loved you even more. But I can promise you this, after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you (1 Peter 5:10) I will never leave you empty. I will replace everything that was lost from you. Please please please, my beloved don’t be so discouraged. Yes, pain is a part of the broken world you live in. BUT I promise you, I will turn every tear you cried into joy. I will use your deep, deep pain into a divine purpose. Don’t try to hide your hurts from me. I see them sweet girl. I know everything about you. You are mine. My Beloved. I am the only one who knows and can handle your heart and restore you back to health and wholeness again. I, too, have felt great pain, rejections, and anger. But we can go through every trial together. Hand in hand I will lead you back to my place of peace and joy after the storm. The sun will shine on you again and your heart will be healed. I promise you, my princess, that when you go through deep waters of great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned (Isaiah 43:2). When you fall, remember that all have sinned and all have fallen short of my glory, so why won’t you forgive yourself when you fall? Don’t you know that I will pick you up when you call out to me and repent?  There is no wrong that can keep me, your King, from redeeming you back to your royal life again. This is a new day and I am ready to do a new thing in you. Let go of your guilt, and trust me to work out what went wrong. Just watch me make you into the person I have called you to be. I am the God of second chances, and my mercy endures forever.”
With no response and tears streaming down, He just held me and I sat presence of my daddy, my Savior.

God know all of our ugly and all of our imperfections. Do not be scared if your perception of God shifts as you grow. Do not shy away from learning about who God truly is just because He is becoming a clearer, more real and personal God, perhaps an even more straight to the point kind of God. His love still endures forever. He is still good no matter how complicated He may seem at a certain valley during your growth.

“Dear my daughter, I created you. I formed you. Fear not for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name. You are mine. When you pass through the waters, I’ll be with you. The waters won’t overwhelm you. When you walk through fire, you won’t be burned. And the flame shall not consume you. I am the Lord your God, your savior. The holy one. You are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you. Fear not for I am with you. I created you for my glory. I formed you and made you. I want you to know and believe me and understand that I am he. The Lord. There was none before me and none will come after me. Don’t remember the pains of the past, I am doing new things. I formed you so you would praise me. You aren’t giving me all your heart, you aren’t satisfied in me, instead you have burdened me with your sins. But I am your God. I blot out your transgressions for my own sake. I will not remember your sins. Love, Your heavenly Father”

He Hears My Cry..

So here recently, I’ve been on a journey. A journey that I never thought I would ever go on.. I was brought to my lowest of lows; I was torn to pieces, and felt ultimately alone in this BIG scary world. I felt very exposed. There were countless days were anxiety suffocated me and I just…broke. I felt emotions that needed to be felt, that I never knew existed. There were days I cried out to God and just felt unheard and abandoned.. Prayer after prayer was spoken, my heart cried out to God to mend my brokenness. To take away the pain that I was dragging around. In a way, I felt as if he had forgotten all about me and left me out to dry. He brought me to the end of myself..

One night as I was driving home from school, I was just SO fed up with God. So instead of going straight home, I pulled over into this patch of grass, and I just let him have it. All the pain and hurt I was carrying, I just poured it all out on Him. It was as if I was beating Him with it. Every tear that was shed, every ounce of anger I had towards Him, was all oozing out of me that night.

After letting it all out, I get out and sit on top of my car and watched the sunset and found myself listened to the birds chirping and the sound of little kids playing at the park across the street. I found myself staring at the road and how far down it went. Tears falling from my eyes, I thought to myself “this road just keeps on going…” I close my eyes as I felt the warmth of the salty tears fall down my cheeks, I heard a still soft voice say, “This has been a hard road and there are a couple more rough patches coming up.. but I'm still faithful. I'm still here with arm wide open."

Emotionally exhausted, I leave and life still sucked…

Weeks passed and nothing felt as if it were changing.

But one morning, in my quite time with Jesus, he met me where I was. And when I say met, I mean with every heart ache, every concern, every worry, every fear, and every ounce of anger that was within me, He tenderly met me there.

You see, if you didn't know, I struggle daily with who I am as a person and who I am in God.

In my crazy chaotic brain of mine, I have this image that in a way, is very degrading to myself. I fight myself on the way I look, the way my body is shaped. Let’s just say, self-image is one of my many weaknesses.. but as I struggle with who I am, I am noticing how much society throws so many lies to us. Lies that, we believe those lies scream at us and eventually end up polluting our mind.

As I observed around me that morning, God was showing me very much so, the ways of this world. Actually, in the past few weeks I have been seeing more and more, the lies of this world, the greed and many who suffer at the hands of wickedness. The Bible says we do not belong here and that we are "aliens" to this world and lately that has never been more evident. Verse 3&4 of Psalm 101 pretty much sums up my day that morning "I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil"

Later on in the day, I was flipping through my bible, and landed on Hosea and started flipping through to see what I could find. I turn to chapter 7 and just start randomly reading different verses

And to be honest, In a way I really wanted this passage to be about the prodigal son.. He does something wrong and then comes running home. With the father waiting on him.

But it's not.

Ephriam is in and out of control. While the people of Israel are so crazed with self-indulgence that they can hardly tell what day it is..

They just cra cra..

After reading this passage over and over again, it dawned on me.. God has never changed.

God’s character never changes. His one face is righteousness. His one word is holiness. And His one undying, unrelenting call for His people is love.

And as the ever-faithful God, He remains. Even as His anger burns over the unfaithfulness of His People, He forgives me. He provides for me. He gives me a fresh start. And even, in His severe mercy, He withholds good things from me that I might return to Him.

While Israel bases its bets with other gods, (me trying to put my faith in other things then him) He still has all His money on His one, true love.

I am His one, true love. Wherever i am, whatever I’ve done, whatever anyone else thinks of me, and however long it’s been since the last time I have really just called Him faithful- He hasn’t changed.

He wants to give me good things. He wants me to delight in Him, to come to Him to supply my needs, to come to Him when i am lonely or happy or angry. He wants relationship, and He wants it with Me.

Even when things are rough, He. Hasn’t. Changed.

I have to be honest, there are moments that the broken i felt is still here, the empty prayers are still prayed, and the pain I felt, is still felt at some point… I confess i still get scared sometimes; but His perfect love comes rushing in. And all the lies screamed inside go silent, the moment He beg. He reminds me of the things forgotten, He unwinds me until I’m totally undone, and His arms around me. Fear was no match for His love.

So as I sit here tonight, I realize that I am not the only one. In Christ we are so many things.

You are beautiful
You are unique
You are loved
You are Created with a purpose
You are Special
You are chosen
You are worthy of love and affection
You are never too much, and you are always enough.
You are precious.
You are a diamond, a rose, a pearl.
The most stunning of all God's creation.
You are worth more than you could ever imagine.

Worth more than a number on a scale; the products you use; how you look; number of followers you have on Twitter;

Your worth surpasses all earthly things, because in the eyes of the Lord, you are loved and you are worth dying for. DYING FOR.

You are strong and capable. Any voices in your mind that try to tell you differently, are from the enemy.

Regardless of who you think you are. Cheerleader, geek, popular, nerd, or you never had any one to call a friend. Whether you love yourself and love your life. Or you can't stand to look in the mirror and you feel as if everything in your life is falling apart. Whether you are such a winner or you feel like the world’s biggest failure. Regardless of who you think you are, the reality is that Jesus gave up His life for YOU!

You are no longer a slave to this world, you are a child of God!

“Yet the lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him." Isaiah 30:18

“But they do not consider that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds surround them; they are before my face.
- Hosea 7:2

Recklessly Abandoned

“Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her. And there I will give her her vineyards and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.” Hosea 2:14-15

This past weekend, I decided to be adventurous. I decided to embrace the autumn weather, the crisp cool breeze against my pale cheeks, the crunch of leaves beneath my feet, and decided to go on a hike. I wanted a change of scenery and go do something…out of the ordinary. So as we were hiking, we decided to jump off the trail, and go wherever our feet lead us. If we got lost, which did happen a time or two, so be. I was just going to fully embrace everything that came my way.

As Cassie and I were hiking, we had a moment to just… talk. We knew each other, but we really didn’t “know” each other. We shared a little bit of our stories, laughed, goofed around and just took a step back from the chaos of the world to just enjoy friendship. We discussed trials, heart ache, issues that we see “take over our world.” In that moment, it hit me, I’m not the only one struggling.

You see, for a while now, I’ve stepped back. I secluded myself from my friends, my college group, and in a way, my family. I felt so alone, so abandoned. In my “world” I saw everyone having this perfect world, and I was left alone to suffer. All. By. Myself. Different situations suffocated me; they became my only view, with no hope in sight. Even though I had people around me who reached out to me, loved on me, prayed for me, encouraged me.. I didn’t want any of it. I rejected it, I ran as far away from them as I possibly could. I even remember telling a dear friend of mine to stop praying for me. I simply did not want anything anyone had to offer.

But in that moment on our hike, it clicked with me, “I’m not the only one suffering” I mean, I knew that in my head, but in my heart, I felt all alone in this ugly dark world.

We continue to hike and talk, laugh and cut up, we get to the top of Revelation Peak. At the top of this trail stood a cross with an overview of trees, beautiful trees for miles and miles. The view is simple, yet so beautiful. As we stood, looking at this view, I decide to speak to my creator. I stand at the top of this mountain and cry. In that moment, Jesus met me there. With Him knowing my heart and where I was in my walk with Him, in a still soft voice, He whispers, “I know, and I still love you. I’m right here. Lay it all down… don’t carry this burden anymore… Trust me sweetie, I have you. You’re almost home now, please don’t quit now...”

He met me there, I was “her” in Hosea 2:14. He brought me into the wilderness. He spoke tenderly to me. He met me where I was at. Anger, bitterness, hopelessness, brokenness, and all, he met me where I was. And he welcomed me with arms stretched out, full of so much love and grace. Love that I have rejected for so long. And grace I do not deserve.

Looking back at it, I got to thinking. There is a direct connection between where we live and how we live. The things that occupy our mind and drive our heart will determine the state of our being. If our greatest concern is money, we will be filled with insecurity. If we live in the land of doubt, we will experience continual discouragement. Brokenness may be what God uses to get our attention and introduce us to grace, but living there will produce a spiritual self-pity far from the life of spiritual fulfillment that God desires for his children.

But when we live in the shelter that God provides, we will know a peace that passes all understanding. Living in the “shelter of the Most High” gives us balance with our money, causes inevitable doubt to drive us to the Father for strength, and moves us from brokenness to wholeness in Christ.

Throughout the Psalms, David refers to God as his fortress, refuge, and strength. He faced many physical and spiritual battles throughout his life and saw firsthand how God provides a strong fortress regardless of what attacks us. In the ancient world the fortress was often walled off from the rest of the city, supplied with food, water, and ammunition where the people could be protected and the city could be defended. David knew that he did not need to fear, because in God, he found a fortress stronger than any attack this world could form.

Last night, I sought the Lord. Not only did He meet me again; but I went to him this time.

Bear with me.

As I was outside looking out, I closed my eyes and went to my special place with Jesus.

In my mind, there are trees, there is the same cool crisp breeze that hits my face, leaves crunching beneath my feet after every step I take. There is a pier that is greeted with a gorgeous lake; and the sun that glistens off the sunflowers. Right in the middle of the sunflower garden, sits Jesus, sitting on His throne. Filthy from head to toe, my head down low in shame, I go to Him. As I stand in front of him, He cups my cheeks with His hands, looks me in the eyes and starts wiping away all of the dirt, all of the filth. With each stroke, he is saying “I love you sweet girl” “No more filth, no more shame, no more ugliness.” And he stood there and made me clean.

From there, he picks me up and sits me in his lap, and I just cry. I let it all out. “Jesus, how could you let me go through that? Why didn’t you save me? Why?” He wiped every tear, took me by the hand and says “I love you my beloved. I am so sorry you had to go through that; but know, where evil enters, I am not present. I know how broken you are. Let me piece you back together.” And he fully embraces me. Before I open my eyes, I look up at my heavenly father and he tells me “I will force you to face things in yourself that you will never want to face, but I will greet you with compassion, mercy, and patience…”

We all have our own fortresses that we run to when we face overwhelming circumstances. These fortresses can take the shape of people or relationships. They can also be material things in our lives that we think will bring happiness and take our minds off of our problems. Like David, we should realize that the one true fortress we have is with the one true God. This fortress will always protect and never let

After returning from my fortress with my Father, I learned that when we become Christians, we aren't guaranteed a perfect life. We will still have trials and hard moments. The hard stuff that we had when we were living without Him, will still be there. The one thing that we are promised is that He will never leave us. That in those hard moments, He is right there beside us, asking us to let Him have that burden. When we surrender our life unto Him, we have this promise. He tells us, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) So when we have the hard moments, the times when we feel like He's not around, know that He is still there and that He will NEVER leave you. He has already overcome the world. In that, we have peace. There is no mountain high enough or valley low enough. He's still there.

Here’s the question: Where are you living? Homes of materialism, doubt, brokenness, sexual pleasure, unfaithfulness, pride, and inward focus will all come crashing down around you. But when you move into God’s shelter, you will find “rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to come home.

Father, I pray for the person whose mind…whose life…is saturated with the things that result in emptiness. Give them the strength to come home today and dwell in the shelter of the Most High.

"I loved you at your darkest"

From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to a rock that is higher than I.

-Psalms 61:2

Many times, I often wonder why bad things happen in this world. Whether it’s personal or universal.

When life begins to crush me, I tend to hide and mask my pain behind my abstract questions like “Where was God when I was hurting?” or “If God is God, then why does he let bad things happen?” or “ Why does evil exist?” and at times, I found myself, running away from God bitter and angry.. not realizing, that when I wave that finger at him, we are actually forfeiting the very thing that will have given me peace that I so desperately need in that very moment.

Personally I think, that if I were to have gotten answers to those questions, that I wouldn't have been satisfied. It wouldn’t have taken away that pain and it wouldn’t give us hope.

As I have read, my heavenly Father perused me first. Without end, loved me first without fault. HE chose ME first! I was on top of His list.

I have come to the very blunt conclusion that I am NEVER going to be good enough to save myself. Anna cannot do that task! I will fall short. I am going to fall hard from trying to be who I want to be.

When Jesus chose me first, he brought me to a place of repentance. Brought me to a realization that I don’t have to try to be more then who I am. In some moments of life, it’s very hard to believe that he loves me like I am, who he made me to be.., I sometimes think he sees my ugly past, my sin, shame and guilt that I carry.. In a sense, I feel like he is going to love the future version of me better, than who I am at this very moment.

BUT

Jesus sees our sin more clearly than anyone, yet he loves us more than anyone.

Jesus has and will continue to daily set me free from all of those lies!

Everyone is broken. He knew how broken we were going to be, I mean, look at what he had to do (John 3:16)

He drank deaths cup. I am outed, my sins are already absorbed on that cross. All my doubts? Absorbed. My fears? Taken care of. Sins? Yeah, that’s soaked in there too!

I need him. I am in need of a savior.. THE savior.

HE has brought me to a place where I can and do know Him so very intimately; where I will now go forth and strive to rely on Him always, love Him always, choose Him always, seek out His will, listen for the sound of His voice, and live for Him, humbly, every day of my life.

Here lately, I feel defeated. I feel like He is nowhere to be found. This road that I am currently walking is a looong rugged road. I am met with death and suffering and brokenness and it’s as if it all gets thrown at me, all at once. I find myself screaming “God where are you?” I pray that in that moment we all might have ears to hear that small whisper in my soul that says “I’m right here next to you. I love you. I’m not going anywhere. You are not alone”

That is what changes the heart.. my heart. That is what gives us hope, that God has not left us out in the rain..
